Always, always, always remember who brought you to the dance and who it is who's taking you home.
Today's Reading:
Isn't it something when you are on a roll? That exhilarating feeling happens usually when any number of things fall into place or when one big thing is defeated or accomplished. Confidence grows and a sense of movement starts to happen. Moses sounds like he was on a roll at the start of Deuteronomy. He is saying things like, "We conquered all his towns and completely destroyed everyone...We took all the livestock as plunder for ourselves, along with anything of value from the towns we ransacked...no town had walls too strong for us (Deuteronomy 2:34,35,36). But you know what? Right there you can blow it. Confidence can flip over to cockiness as quickly as you can say pride. Conquering mentality can turn to complacency, and going for the kill can either fade or die altogether. The thing that I need to always remember and do in the midst of a roll is to acknowledge who is accomplishing it. Listen to Moses. "Because the Lord God made Sihon stubborn and defiant so he could help you defeat them, as he has done.... but the lord our God handed him over to us...the Lord helped us conquer Aroer" (verses 30,33,34).
